Micro-TESE is a specialized surgical technique used as a remedy to non-obstructive azoospermia, where a man does not have sperm in his ejaculate even though he produces sperm. This procedure employs a microsurgical approach, in which the surgeon targets specific areas to extract sperm which can then be used to fertilize an egg to give him a shot at fatherhood. This precision minimizes tissue damage, increases the chances of finding viable sperm, and reduces post-operative discomfort.

Why Should You Opt For Micro-TESE?

  • Precision: This procedure targets specific areas of the testicles, reducing tissue damage and discomfort.
  • Fertility Restoration: By locating viable sperm with precision, the chances of successful conception are significantly enhanced.
  • Assisted Reproductive Techniques: The retrieved sperm can be used in conjunction with IVF or ICSI to maximize the chances of pregnancy.

How Is It Done?

During consultation, your andrologist will take your medical history and suggest some tests to determine if Micro-TESE will be a viable option for you. If deemed appropriate, he will assess the true condition of your testicles using an advanced technique, called testicular mapping.

Testicular Mapping: This procedure involves the detailed assessment of the testicles to identify areas with viable sperm production. Under general or local anesthesia, an incision is made in your scrotum through which the surgeon examines the testicular tissue. A surgical microscope provides high magnification and illumination, allowing for precise visualization of the seminiferous tubules, where sperm are produced. The surgeon identifies and marks these areas and takes small tissue samples (biopsies) which are then examined under the microscope to determine the presence of sperm.

If viable sperm are found, they are carefully extracted from the biopsied tissue using micromanipulation techniques. The extracted sperm can be used for various assisted reproductive techniques, such as IVF or ICSI.

If more sperm is required to be extracted in the future, the same marked areas come in handy for successful sperm extraction.

After the procedure, you will rest in the hospital under observation until you recover completely from anesthesia. And then you may be discharged with a prescription of medicine and healthy healing practices. Your body will recover for the next one or two weeks post which you can resume regular physical and sexual activities.

Testicular Mapping and Micro-TESE are revolutionary procedures that offer renewed optimism to couples facing fertility challenges. With a focus on precision, success rates, and advanced surgical techniques, these procedures provide a pathway to fulfilling the dreams of parenthood.
